Monday, April 30, 2007 West Memphis, TN to Nashville, TN

We slept in a bit (and did it ever feel good!). Taking I-40 is a straight shot from Memphis to Nashville. Two Rivers Campground came highly-recommended. It’s east of the city of Nashville and handy to the Grand Ole Opry. We decided to visit The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson’s home. The house tours are conducted by ladies dressed in clothes from that period of history. We found it to be quite amazing that so much of the original furnishings, portraits, chandeliers, etc. have been saved. A ladies society which started in the late 1800’s made it their project to develop and preserve Andrew Jackson’s home as a historical showplace. The grounds- pastures, gardens, slaves’ quarters, and springhouse are reached by self-guided walking and you do get your exercise!
